Pasto Bakes A Giant Ogglecake

It was a bright and sunny morning on Bubble Mountain. 

Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko were at the Oggle Café. They had just finished eating their favourite ogglecake breakfast. 

“Have I ever told you how much I love eating ogglecakes?” asked Blobbo.

“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“That’s right, Beepo, it’s the first time Blobbo has said that… today!” replied Rocco, laughing. 

“Well, I do,” said Blobbo. “And if there was such a thing as a giant ogglecake, I’d munch it all up. Scrummy, yummy!”

Just then, Pasto came up to take away the empty plates. Blobbo smiled and said, 

“Pat-a-cake, pat-a-cake, baker's man.

Bake me an ogglecake, quick as you can.

Pat it and prick it, and mark it with ‘B’.

Put it in the oven for Ogglebogs’ tea.”

Pasto said, “That’s a very nice poem, Blobbo. Did you make it up?”

Blobbo said, “No, I heard it somewhere, I think.”

Pasto said, “But, you know, that’s a very good idea. Tomorrow, I’ll bake a giant ogglecake for ‘The Great Planet Ogg Munching Contest’!”

Now, ‘The Great Planet Ogg Munching Contest’ only happens once every two years. It’s when Ogglebogs from all across Planet Ogg show off how many tasty oggfruits they can eat. Events include the Boranges Competition, the Fapple Round and the Munching Music Contest.

“We’ll come back tomorrow morning to help,” said Rocco.

“You can tell us what to do,” said Coco.

“We can help you as much as you like,” said Oddo.

“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“Yes, Beepo, I expect Pasto will need lots of opples, plims and dotes,” said Rocco.

The next morning soon came around. As Pasto was getting the Oggle Café ready for the day and for the giant ogglecake bake, there was a knock at the door. On opening it, Pasto was surprised to see three little aliens standing outside. They looked a little bit like raspberries on legs. They were friendly little aliens from Planet Pip.

“Like, hello, Pasto!” said one of the aliens.

“Great to see you, yah?” said another alien.

“Yeah, like, so totally good, yah?” said the third alien.

Pasto gave them a big smile and replied, “Hello, little aliens! How’s Planet Pip? Very jolly to see you. How can I help you this fine morning?” 

“Well, it’s like this, yah?” said the first alien. 

“Yah, we absolutely need more oggspice for our special sun cream. It’s got pretty hot on our planet, you see?” said the next little alien.

“Yah, totally. We’ve almost, like, run out,” said the last little alien.

“Well, I’ve got a delivery of oggspice coming in later, so you can have some of that,” said Pasto, “but I’m going to need all the help I can get today. You see, I’m baking a giant ogglecake for ‘The Great Planet Ogg Munching Contest’.”

“We can help, yah?” said the first alien.

“You know what we are super brill at?” said the second alien.

“Washing up! We are, like, champion washer-uppers,” said the third little alien.

“That would be helpful, all right,” said Pasto. “The Ogglebog friends are coming in soon to help as well.”

Just at that moment, in came Rocco, Blobbo, Coco, Oddo, Beepo and Twinko.

“Ah! Hello, Ogglebogs,” said Pasto.

“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“Yes, Beepo, how can we help?” asked Rocco.

“Well, I need opples, plims and dotes for a start,” said Pasto.

“Thought so! We had better get picking,” said Blobbo. “Everyone got their gathering bags?”

“Yes,” said Coco.

“I have,” said Oddo.

“Me too,” said Blobbo.

“Me too,” said Twinko.

“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“Come on then, everyone,” said Rocco. “Off we go!”

The Ogglebogs went down Bubble Mountain and they were soon in the forest where all the oggfruits grow.

Oddo and Coco went off to pick plims.

Rocco and Twinko went off to pick dotes.

Blobbo and Beepo went off to pick opples.

Soon, the Ogglebogs were filling up their gathering bags with delicious oggfruits. 

But Blobbo and Beepo couldn’t find an opple tree with enough fruit on it. They hunted and hunted, and looked all around the forest. 

Suddenly, Beepo said, “Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!”

Beepo had found a tree with the most amazing crop of juicy opples!

Blobbo said, “Before we start picking, I need a rest. I feel a bit sleepy.”

“Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz, bzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“Don’t worry, Beepo, I won’t yawn,” said Blobbo.

Just then, Blobbo did a great big yawn – so big, in fact, that it yawned up every single opple on the tree.

“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“Oh no! What shall we do?” said Blobbo. “Pasto needs opples for the giant ogglecake… and now I’ve yawned them all up!”

Suddenly, Beepo flew off again.

Blobbo sat down and looked sad.

Just then, Beepo flew back.

“Bzzz, bzzz, bzzz, bzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“You’ve found another opple tree?” said Blobbo. “Brilliant! Good old Beepo!”

Blobbo followed Beepo deeper into the forest. And there, right in front of them, was the biggest opple tree Blobbo had ever seen.

Soon, they were filling their gathering bags up with the tastiest and juiciest opples.

When all the Ogglebogs had filled their gathering bags up, they headed back to the Oggle Café. They were all very excited at the idea of the giant ogglecake. 

When they got to the café, they followed Pasto into the bakery. They all sat around a big wooden table, as Pasto began gathering the ingredients. Pasto mixed the fluffiest flour, the freshest eggs and the sweetest sugar, then added the opples, plims and dotes that the Ogglebogs had collected. Then, Pasto added the special oggspice, placed the mixture into a huge dish and put it in the oven. Soon, the delicious smell of the cake filled the whole bakery, making everyone's mouths water.

Meanwhile, the aliens from Planet Pip were busy washing up. They loved the smell of oggspice and they started singing and dancing. When they danced, they squeaked and their little feet tapped on the kitchen floor. Pasto had a happy smile. 

Finally, the cake was ready. Pasto pulled out the massive cake from the oven, then decorated it with coloured icing, sprinkles and edible flowers. The Ogglebogs' eyes widened with delight when they saw the giant cake.

“Oh, it's amazing, Pasto!” said Blobbo, hopping up and down with happiness.

“It’s my pleasure,” Pasto said, feeling happy to have made the Ogglebogs so delighted.

“It looks delicious,” said Coco.

“Yummy, scrummy,” said Oddo.

“The biggest and bestest ogglecake ever!” said Twinko.

“I’ve never seen anything like it,” said Rocco.

“Bzzz, bzzzz, bzz!” said Beepo.

“Yes, Beepo,” said Rocco, “this will be first prize at ‘The Great Planet Ogg Munching Contest’!”

With great care, the Ogglebogs carried the enormous cake out of the bakery and into the café. The little aliens squeaked out of the kitchen and gazed at the cake.

“Wow! It’s, like, amazing, yah?” said the first little alien.

Pasto said, “Thank you for your help washing up and I’ll give you as much oggspice as you need.”

“Thanks so much, yah,” said the second little alien.

Then Pasto said, “Ogglecakes, everyone?”

Blobbo grinned and said, “I thought you’d never ask!”
